Mindfulness-Based Occupational Therapy (MBOT) at SJSU

The Mindfulness-Based Occupational
Therapy certificate is for healthcare practitioners, all over the world, to
integrate mindfulness more explicitly in our work as healthcare practitioners. When I’m more present, I’m much more in-tune with my own physical needs, but also
mental and emotional needs, and also with my client because just being present, I
can tune-in to what is the needs of the dynamic situation that’s unfolding. There’s a lot of pressure and stress to get the job done quickly, and so I think
this is one way to learn how to really be present in the moment. I personally
felt like this certificate, in the skilled I’m learning today, will
benefit me in my own future as an occupational therapist. It was one of the
most influential classes for my career, and I think it makes me a better OT, it
makes me a better colleague, it makes me a better listener for my patients. Because our program is primarily offered online with the exception of one
in-person residential retreat, it really appeals to people from all geographies,
as well as, many different healthcare professionals. So, there’s five courses. Four of those courses are all online except for the
residential retreat that happens here at 14:40 Multiversity which is nestled in
this you know famous redwood forest. It’s about an hour from San Francisco – a
beautiful area for our students coming from all over the world. In order to be
able to change you first have to be met where you are and that’s true for us as
healthcare practitioners and it’s true for our patients. So, my hope is that
coming out of this program you will feel deeply rooted in the community of
practice and how that rise to your work in your life and how
the two enrich each other. The experience can be life-changing and transformative.
