Choosing Happiness By Thinking Of God And Others

Choosing Happiness By Thinking Of God And Others

Choose to think of God and others more than myself can you say that with me choose to think of God and others more than myself you know the final words from the landowner is a biblical principle that is reiterated several times in Matthew’s Gospel we just… it was just actually alluded to earlier in chapter 19 understand the context in just a few short verses you’re going to have Jesus talk about in order to serve you must be the servant of your brother he’s going to say that the son of man did not come to be served but to serve to be a ransom for many He’s teaching a foundational principle of humility for his kingdom here let us not miss that that’s what the whole context again you look at the the parable the context of it all he’s setting them up to say you need to have a change in the way you process life everything else you see listen everybody else uses their power uses their their pleasure their position to lord it over people but that will not be so with my men and my women and my children as children and men and women in my kingdom as people who work in my vineyard you will be a people who think differently because as you think it is as you are and so I choose to think about God Almighty and others that of your own look what it says here in Matthew 20:16 so the last will be first and the first last don’t worry about what they got be thankful for what you got that’s one message for some today maybe you’re looking everybody else be thankful for what you do have let me tell you right now everybody’s got at least one thing to be thankful for you’re alive today and you woke up today you’ve got another day with your family another day to share Christ another day to serve God Almighty God another day to live for His glory listen you’re a winner either way I know people like that winner winner chicken dinner but I got one better for you to live is Christ to die is gain either way you’re a winner as long as you live and draw breath on this earth you live for the glory of God young or old whatever it might be you live for the glory of God and when God calls you home you’re in His presence and you serve Him there you can’t lose but his kingdom is different than how the world the world values greatness God’s looking at greatness He’s looking at the heart He’s looking at the mind and if we’re gonna be humble we got to change the way we think we got to think about serving God and others later on in Matthew’s Gospel Matthew 23:12 it says this but those who think themselves great shall be disappointed and humbled and those who humble themselves shall be exalted as we close there’s somebody who reminds me of this verse about a week and a half ago one of our dear sisters in the church Peggy went home to be with the Lord after an 11 plus year battle with cancer back and forth God called her home and you might remember Peggy faithfully sitting in the back of church treatments it didn’t matter she came to church and the Lord called her home now a little less than two months ago her husband Frank who’s a sweet brother gave me something Peggy made for me Peggy was a on top of an honorable profession that she served in Peggy took up diamond art painting and she’d made me this here and for those of you who were at her funeral Thursday I had showed it there but Peggy said I got to put three things a couple things together that the pastor liked so the American flag for our country I’m so thankful for our country and the freedoms that we have the Bible the greatest thing that you could ever want to have in your life right the Word of God the grass withers and the flowers fade but the Word of God stands forever the promises of God stand on God’s promises there it is and then here it is the cross the most you thought the bat symbol was important some of you okay let me tell you the bat symbol never sent anybody to heaven the cross of Jesus Christ that’s where it’s at the cross of Jesus Christ Now I told Frank, maybe the only thing that was missing maybe was a piece of pizza in this or a canolli but no I think she hit it right on the head right Frank she put it right where it needed to be and I thought about this painting and Peggy and about showing it to you actually gonna show in a couple weeks because it was another there was another parable coming up that I thought fit it but I want I couldn’t wait another week to honor Peggy’s memory and how sweet she was and there were several conversations I had with Peggy towards the end one in particular in August where Peggy was asking me about basically directions to heaven how do you know that you know and I said Peggy based on the questions you’re asking you’re already there you already know Christ and I shared with her Romans 10:9 and I shared a couple other verses she was writing them down I said do you believe this with all my heart and although dear Peggy left us she’s not forgotten and she’s certainly not gone forever we will be reunited with her and others who have gone ahead in the kingdom of God and I like to think of Peggy of somebody who models this verse a very humble sweet petite woman but in all of her sickness and all of her illness wanted to make this painting to give to me and it will hang in my office my humble office and I will always remember that example and the need to be humble and my prayer is that all of us listen it does the kingdom of God no good that we are a prideful Church an opulence Church a showy Church that doesn’t lead anybody to Christ it doesn’t glorify God just glorifies us we want to give all honor and glory to the Lord Jesus Christ we want to sow humility and will reap the joy and happiness of Jesus Christ
